The relatively new sport features bouts between fighters from a variety of martial arts backgrounds. The athletes square off in an octagonal shaped ring enclosed in a wire mesh cage. On Friday night the Kilkenny Top Pro martial arts club had its official opening. Special guest TD Bobby Aylward, who was instrumental in helping the club find the funding and in the development of the new state of the art combat centre, was on hand to cut the ribbon and officially open the club. After a tour of the premises and chatting with some of the members and fighters Mr Aylward congratulated everybody and guaranteed his ongoing support for the club.

Kickboxing action

Galway Black Dragon kickboxer Sean Cumiskey, who is the current IKF All Ireland and five Nations Full Contact Kickboxing Champion, will jet out to Minnesota, USA this weekend with his coach Pete Foley to challenge for the vacant IKF world lightweight title.

Bogus fundraising

The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club states that it has no fundraiser in place at present, as it has come to their attention that people have been collecting in the Knocknacarra area for the club.
